News this week that the University of Essex are fitting a remote-controlled model car with a PC, sensors and a camera that will enable it to see obstacles and make decisions on avoiding them - with their goal to be able to do this in a full sized car within 15 years.Project lead Dr Simon Lucas said:
"This project will push computational intelligence methods to their limits, and beyond. As far as we are aware, this is the first time a completely autonomous model car has been developed."The prototype model will allow them to develop the new technology, as Lucas added:
"By using model cars, we will be able investigate the possibilities of the technology far easier and more cheaply."Hold on a second, didn't Will Smith already do this in I, Robot 3 years ago? Maybe they should just get the blueprints from the Fresh Prince? :)
