When French MPs return from their summer holidays (i.e. after all of August, when the whole country shuts down), they will find that their previous Windows PCs have now been switched to Linux ones.577 MPs have switched to non-proprietary software for the first time, and they will use a umber of tailored applications including those from the Mozilla suite.
The whole project is believed to cost just over £50K, and continues the line of the French to move to Open Source solutions such as the use of the Apache web server on the parliament's website.
Isn't it about time that Tony Blair and the UK government followed suit?
