ICANN rejects .xxx domains

ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) have rejected the proposal (for the third and hopefully final time) to launch the new .xxx domain name suffix in order for porn sites to be hosted there.

Speaking at the ICANN conference in Lisbon, ICANN chairman Vint Cerf said:
"This decision was the result of very careful scrutiny and consideration of all the arguments. That consideration had led a majority of the board to believe that the proposal should be rejected."
Proponents of the new suffix argued that it would be an easier way to classify adult sites, while those against suggested it would make them easier to find.

ICANN also said that they won't take proposals for any further top level domains at the moment, but this doesn't rule out them considering them in future.
