Internet users not safety aware

A scary proportion of less than half of Internet users believe that they are responsible for the safety of their own personal information while they are online. One in six of them even believe that this is the responsibility of their bank.

The survey by government campaign Get Safe Online found that 12% of the respondents had been the victims of online fraud over the last year - at an average cost of £875 apiece.

Get Safe Online's managing director Tony Neate is spot on:
"The internet now is the real world. We don't blame the police when we get burgled and we must take responsibility for what we do online in the same way we do for securing our houses and cars."
