Microsoft defends Vista green credentials

Microsoft are clearly getting very tetchy about claims of Vista's lack of environmental friendliness, including some stern statements that have been made by the Green Party.

The software giant has commissioned a report that (surprise, surprise) glows about the power management functions in the new operating system and how great Vista is for carbon emission reductions:
"The study, which compared energy usage between Windows XP and Windows Vista, revealed that the new operating system could help reduce the carbon dioxide generated by a 200-desktop organisation by 45 tonnes per year."
So, in other words, XP was really power hungry, and Vista is better - still doesn't make it green though!
