Microsoft has issued a report singing the praises of Vista and its lack of bugs. Ain't that asking for trouble!Vista is reported to have a third of the bugs of Windows XP and a fifth as many as Mac OSX, according to Jeff Jones from Microsoft's security technology group.
Jones says on his blog:
"Vista has an improved security vulnerability profile over its predecessor, and a significantly better profile relative to comparable modern competitive operating systems."Symantec points out, quite rightly, that simply counting the vulnerabilities does not tell you how secure an operating system (OS) is or isn't:
"The severity of [a] vulnerability plays into this, too. A single vulnerability that has a high severity could lead to the next Sasser or Blaster [worm], but an OS with a larger [bug] count, but with [ones rated] less high may be in a better defensive position overall."In their Internet Security Threat Report, Symantec highlighted that many of the Microsoft vulnerabilities are muhc more severe than those hitting other OSes.
