In a move reminiscent of the Dot Com boom, Microsoft are suing a number of cybersquatters who have registered domain names including common mis-spellings of their product names such as the Xbox. This has already kicked off in the US, with the Redmond giant now expanding it to Europe - including 5 alleged UK cybersquatters.
On the back of a landmark case last year, Microsoft have launched the action - with around 2,000 domains daily registered including product trademarks, it's the lawyers that win here:
"These sites confuse visitors who are trying to reach genuine company websites, which can negatively affect corporate brands and reputations as well as impair the end-users' experience online," said Aaron Kornblum, a senior lawyer with Microsoft.
