Turkey lifts ban on YouTube

The ban on YouTube being seen by Turkish Internet users imposed after a court order earlier this week has been lifted.

Details on why the ban has now been lifted are sketchy, no doubt the bad online publicity from places like blogs was a factor though.

Telecommunications company Turk Telecom has confirmed that the ban has been lifted, and that they have taken measures to remove the filters for the site's access for their customers.

They said:
"As soon as the court decision lifting the ban reached us, we immediately opened YouTube."
The ban was imposed after a flame war on the site with offensive videos being posted about the Turks, including of the country's founder - Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
