Damage to two submarine cables has caused havoc with Internet access and international phone calls across the Middle East and Asia, with reports that 70% of the network in Egypt and 60% of the Indian network suffered disruption.According to provider DU it was caused by "cuts in two international submarine cable systems in the Mediterranean Sea this morning (Wednesday)."
The cut has affected services for UK based companies such as British Airways, who have outsourced call centres in the region.
It's believed that it may take up to a week to restore full service. Rumours are that the problem was caused by a ship's anchor near the Egyptian port of Alexandria.
