Charter to launch contextual advertising

Charter Communications in the USA are the latest ISP to launch contextual advertising, where advertising will be inserted into web pages dependent on the web usage preferences of the end user.

The system, similar to what Phorm are working with 3 of the big ISPs in the UK on, is launched to their customers on an 'opt-out' basis and is using Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) technology as the key enabler.

More can be found about the "Enhanced Online Experience" here, and speculation is that it is being deployed through Phorm competitor NebuAd.
