Atari withdraws from copyright litigation

Atari have ceased their agreement with Davenport Lyons to pursue consumers who have download pirated copies of their software. Davenport Lyons are a law firm legendary for pursuing consumers on behalf of gaming companies, and charging them for the software ... plus threatening litigation if they don't cough up.

A spokesperson from Atari said:
"In relation to file sharing, our position is that we always retain and reserve the right to protect our intellectual property from illegal copying and piracy. Whilst we are no longer working with Davenport Lyons, we continue to work with legal advisers to protect our rights."
It's unclear why they've withdrawn from an agreement, but the poor PR that gaming companies have been receiving over some of the cases is likely to be significant factor.
