PlusNet customer gets Phorm invite

BT-owned ISP PlusNet has admitted a boob by where one of their customers was presented with a screen inviting them to join BT's Phorm trial (branded Webwise), even though PlusNet has stated that they have no intention to rollout the controversial contextual advertising technology.

The customer was one taking part in an unconnected trial on BT's Retail Internet Network (RIN), and the problem was blamed on a configuration error by a spokesperson:
"PlusNet customers using RIN should not normally see the BT Webwise invitation screen or be able to join the BT Webwise trial.

This case is believed to have been due to a configuration error, which we acted on as soon as we were made aware of it."
Given the number of wholesale and other non BT Retail residential customers on the BT network, this will no doubt be raising concerns up and down the land if BT are having problems with configuring their network to the right customers for the trial.
