And others are definitely getting the same, going by the story at Neowin.What's causing the issue is unknown, and Google are "trying to fix it asap". Some reports suggest that access via IMAP and POP (i.e. client software) is unaffected.
Google's status page says:
Update at 1250: The service has now come back. According to the BBC, Google's Todd Jackson has said:"We're conducting a full review of what went wrong and moving quickly to update our internal systems and procedures accordingly."
