Mashable is covering the problem of Twitter's new Trending Topics list being hijacked by spammers; in order to get they key words or phrases in the top 10 accounts are being set up to push affiliate links to the subject of the spam.The whole idea of hijacking Trending Topics was started as a joke by some Twits using the key term of #ladders, and has since been used to promote 'Apple Shampoo' with spammers catching on:
It will be interesting to see what (if anything) Twitter does to combat this.
