The United States is an incredibly insular country. We've all heard the stats about how few people have passports, but it's not until you go there and watch TV that you realise just how insular - seemingly on the TV news the rest of the world does not exist and almost all stories are about domestic issues. The people at Mashable have shown how technology news stories can be just as bad - not noticing the death of actress Mollie Sugden this week and presuming that the joke tribute Twitter trending topic of #MrsSlocombesPussy - which was suggested by a few of the mega-followed UK celebs on the site - was in fact spam.
What is quite interesting though is that Twitter isn't showing any results for it, presuming it's spam:
Which goes to remind you how subjective spam is.
