The search link up between Microsoft and Yahoo! was originally supposed to go ahead this year - in fact October 27 to be exact - but has now been pushed back into 2010.Yahoo! has filed documents with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) stating that the delay was down to the complexity of the deal:
"Given the complex nature of the transaction, there remain some details to be finalised. The parties are working diligently on finalising the agreements, have made good progress to date, and have agreed to execute the agreements as expeditiously as possible."A Yahoo! spokesman later added that:
"Both companies are optimistic that we will be able to close this deal by early 2010."Once the Department of Justice has completed their investigations it needs European approval before being allowed to proceed, after which Microsoft's Bing technology would power Yahoo! search.
