Microsoft to axe 2% of UK workforce

Microsoft have announced that they will be cutting 2% of their UK workforce as part of a wider move for the company to shed 800 jobs - additional to the 5,000 cuts that were announced in January, the first ever widescale job cuts the company has done.

In the UK, Microsoft employes 2,700 people - which equates to about 54 job losses. 58 UK roles were shed in January.

A statement says:
"A number of UK positions are affected, representing about two percent of the 2,700 people currently based in the UK. We are working closely with affected employees to help them through this difficult transition.

While job eliminations are always difficult, we need to ensure that our investments are aligned to current and future revenue opportunities. We believe in the strength of the company, our ability to continue delivering value to customers and our approach to long-term growth."
It's not been revealed in which business units the jobs are going.
