Web retailing giant Amazon has scotched rumours that they are set to launch a UK retail presence to cash in on the popularity of 'click and collect' services like those operated by John Lewis and Argos. The Sunday Telegraph had reported a source close to the company as saying:
"When Amazon was just selling books and CDs that fitted easily through the letterbox, it was fine to be a web-only business. But now it has branched out in to everything from children's bikes to electricals, it believes it could boost sales by having stores that offer a collection point for shoppers."In response the company said:
"We have no plans to open physical retail stores anywhere in the world."Interestingly, Tesco are set to open some 'dark stores' that will be laid out exactly like their regular supermarkets - but will never be visited by the public ... instead they will fulfil online orders.
