Microsoft to patch 17 year old bug

In next week's Windows Update Microsoft will be patching a bug that's significantly older than many of their users.

Last month a Google researcher found a bug in DOS that has been there throughout multiple different versions of Windows over the last seventeen (yes, 17) years, and it will be fixed on Patch Tuesday next week along with 25 other Windows problems - five of which are listed as "critical".

Last month they rolled out an 'out of band' patch to fix the Internet Explorer flaw that caused Google's China crisis, and the number of patches next week is no doubt part of them clearing the decks ahead of the significant change coming next month - the launch of the Browser Ballot screen.
