BT to offer free Olympic WiFi

BT are set to offer competitors and spectators at the London Olympics free WiFi access via the company's hotspots, which of course they are also seeking to win the concession to deploy on the London Underground having been beaten by O2 to a similar contract in Kensington & Chelsea.

Of course those at the games won't care about a political ploy to get Boris Johnson et al on board if they do have access to free WiFi, and whilst a London 2012 spokesman didn't confirm the arrangement they could hardly have hinted more at it in saying:
"We are working closely with BT to look at Wi-Fi access at the Olympic Park. Announcements will be made soon."
Telecommunications access at London 2012 has been controversial with reports suggesting that non O2 mobile users will have to go outside of the venues to get mobile reception - O2 and BT both being Olympic sponsors of course.

Without WiFi being widely available in the Olympic Park area of London much 3G congestion would otherwise be expected.
