Google picks up biggest enterprise deal yet

Google have signed up their biggest enterprise partner yet to their Google Apps suite of outsourced messaging and collaboration services with news that Spanish bank Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria is to switch approximately 110,000 employees (in more than 26 countries) over to their platform.

Google Apps - which also runs editions for ISPs, educational institutions and government as well as their enterprise version - will result in the bank making significant cost savings as they move over to the platform that has many shared components with Gmail as a result of Google winning the deal over their usual competitor in this segment, Microsoft.

Both companies declined to put a value on the deal, which will be for one year initially and auto renew unless either party wishes to walk away from the arrangement.

A deal such as this in the financial sector is of course a massive coup for Google and massively increases the credibility of their offering against the traditional Microsoft Exchange based solutions that so dominate this niche area of the software market.
