YouView spends £20m more

YouView - the much delayed IPTV venture that brings together consortium parties such as BT, TalkTalk, ITV, BBC and Channel 4 - spent nearly £20m (£19.74m to be precise) on development (£14.5m) and administration costs (£5.2m) between July 2010 and March 2011 - and is still not up and running as a consumer facing service.

Lord Sugar has famously been brought in to 'kick the tyres' on the venture and has since sacked YouView's entire public relations, research and marketing teams as they inch towards trials which are now expected to get underway in either March or April this year.

Providers BT and TalkTalk have put much weight behind YouView as they rival incumbent TV providers Sky and Virgin Media, despite many thinking it is destined to fail and has missed the boat thanks to its endless delays.

The biggest salary they forked out in the period was the £97,000 they paid to former chairman Kip Meek, who was replaced by Lord Sugar.
